As part of its support for Women’s History Month, Hearthstone will be hosting a series of four presentations made by the museum’s volunteers and staff. The series will be held on the first four Tuesdays of the month starting at 6:00 pm in Hearthstone’s Parlor.
This evening’s presentation is:
The Foundations of Society – Women’s Undergarments of the Victorian Age by Hearthstone volunteer and accomplished seamstress Jordan Rousseau who makes bespoke Victorian clothing. The presentation will feature Powerpoint slides as well as a live model demonstration of dressing in Victorian clothing.
Victorian women were confined by societal norms, literally and figuratively. This presentation will examine the impact that Victorian clothing had on women’s roles, women’s lives, and women’s bodies.
