Acclaimed as an inventive genius, Lewis Latimer also worked side by side with some of the most famous names in American history - Alexander Graham Bell, Hiram Maxim, and Thomas Edison. Hearthstone’s exhibit explores not only Latimer’s inventions - many of which advanced Edison’s designs - but also his parent’s fight for freedom from slavery, their fight to remain free, and Latimer’s service in the US Navy during the Civil War.

The permanent exhibit is available on every tour of Hearthstone. Live virtual presentations to elementary school classes are also available starting February 1. Special events related to Lewis Latimer, his life, and his work will be scheduled in the near future.
